Johannes Lievaart was born in 1937 in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, and first started to learn to play the violin during those dark days of World War II. He studied the violin in Amsterdam and consequently taught at a number of music schools. After some years with the Utrecht Symphony Orchestra he concentrated completely on teaching, both violin and viola, and conducting. He taught at the music colleges of Hilversum (teacher training) and Utrecht (violin) and at a great number of chamber music courses.

In the seventies Johannes Lievaart took courses with Paul Rolland and set up is own Violin School "Accademia Filarmonica Utrecht" using Paul Rolland methods. In 1983 Johannes started Suzuki Teacher Training in England with Felicity Lipman and completed the course in 1986. After this he went three times to Japan to study with Dr. Suzuki and so the Accademia Filarmonica became a Suzuki School with 5 teachers for violin, viola and cello, 2 assistant teachers and a number of accompanists.

Since taking on the Suzuki Method more of Johannes’ students then before have moved on into the musical profession, as the young soloist Lisa Jacobs, the jazz player Tim Kliphuis and many orchestral players and music teachers. Johannes has taught at nearly a hundred workshops and international conferences.

Since 2004 Johannes is teacher trainer and examiner for the ESA and has a program for violin teachers as part of the Accademia Filarmonica Utrecht.Johannes Lievaart studies with Paul Rolland, Kato Havas, Shinichi Suzuki, John Kendall.
